Unified Payments Interface (UPI) lets anyone with a bank account and a phone send money instantly, any day of the week, with nothing more than a UPI ID or a QR code. For customers it is fast and familiar. For businesses it means money lands in the bank account within seconds instead of days.
How a UPI payment travels
When a customer scans your QR code, their UPI app (PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM or a bank app) asks them to confirm the amount with their UPI PIN. Their bank debits the account and the payment travels over the UPI network to your bank, which credits you. Both sides receive a reference number, the UTR, that identifies the payment.
Why businesses switch to UPI
- Instant settlement into your own account.
- Low cost: many UPI collection setups have little or no transaction fee.
- No cards to handle: the customer authorises everything on their own phone.
- Works everywhere: websites, apps, WhatsApp links, shop counters and delivery doorsteps.
Where UPIPayments fits
UPIPayments connects the UPI account you already have, such as a PhonePe business account, and adds what a growing business needs: an API for your website, a hosted checkout, payment links, automatic confirmation, webhooks and clean reports. The money still goes straight to you.
